I HAVE TO WRITE! I CAN’T STAND IT!

UPDATE:

CAPTAIN’S LOG, STAR DATE  blah blah blah (Sorry.  I can’t do this.  I’m no trekky.)

Well, here I am.  I’ve done my part thus far for Read Me Dead, my new YA Romantic Suspense novel.  (It’s currently in my dear editor’s hands.)

So what am I doing now?  I’m left editing yet another novel.

So, my hatred for editing isn’t quite as bad as it used to be, but I’M ITCHING TO WRITE!! NOT EDIT!

I want to work on my next novel, the second book of my Knight’s Academy Trilogy, but I need to focus on the edits of this first one.  (They still don’t have titles aside from Knight’s Academy, but it being the first book of the Knight’s Academy trilogy, I just don’t think that’s creative enough.  That’s just me though. lol)

I’m new to writing a book that is more than a stand alone.  Stand alone’s have been my thing, but I want to try my hand at a series.  So, here I am.  Writing a series.  I’ll see how it goes.

So far, there’s a lot more research to be done with these novels than the others.  I’m trying to get everything just right for this book, so I’m researching and I’m editing.  I’m editing and writing.  I cannot make myself focus solely on edits right now since that’s what I’ve been doing for the past few months.

I have to write.  I can’t take it!

  1. I don’t know… sometimes I think it’s good to keep things rotating. If I get blocked writing, I go to something else for edits (and vise versa). I currently have a mystery series and a stand alone going on, so I know how hard it can be to focus!

I’m having the same problem. I need to start editing, but the desire to write is strong. The muse is so fickle I’d hate to miss a chance because I was doing something else.

  3. Aww. I know that feeling! When I’m revising, I feel almost jealous of people who are first-drafting!

What I try to do is allow a little creative rewriting during revisions. If I can put in a funny new sentence or two per session, that gives me a bit of the surprise/discovery vibe I love about first-drafting. If you’re just cutting and reorganizing, that’s no fun. Add a little bit–way more fun! I mean, if your scenes aren’t already the perfect length. 🙂

Good luck! Update us tomorrow with how it went!

    1. That’s a great idea! I haven’t had time to edit today, but as soon as I find some time to sit down and edit, I will definitely update on the status of my editing. 🙂 Thanks for the helpful tips! I really do appreciate it!

      1. Thanks! I’m pretty excited to get them out into the world to be read! Frankly, I’m sick of dealing with them. 😉 lol As soon as I get Read Me Dead back from my editor, I’ll send it to you so you can read it. 🙂

  4. I’m in the middle of editing at the moment. To be honest I don’t mind the line editing stuff – it’s the global edits that drive me crazy. Replotting entire scenes, or worse trying to decide whether to cut them completely sets my head spinning. Looking forward to reading Read Me Dead when it comes out. Ps. who do you have editing it?
