As you guys know, I just read Lichgates by S.M. Boyce. You can read the review here. Luckily, I had received a copy of Treason to read as soon as I finished Lichgates!
Ourea has always been a deadly place. The lichgates tying the hidden world to Earth keep its creatures at bay—for now.
Kara Magari ignited a war when she stumbled into Ourea and found the Grimoire: a powerful artifact filled with secrets. To protect the one person she has left, she strikes a deal that goes against everything she believes in. But things don’t go as planned.
Braeden Drakonin can no longer run from who—and what—he is. He has to face the facts. He’s a prince. He’s a murderer. He’s a wanted man. And after a betrayal that leaves him heartbroken, he’s out for blood.
To survive, both Kara and Braeden must become the evil each has grown to hate.
***Just ahead, slight spoilers if you haven’t read Book One! But no spoilers for Book 2.***
Treason picks up where Lichgates leaves off. It still follows Braeden and Kara on their journey for peace in Ourea. But peace is hard to find when all of the Bloods (kings and queens) are fighting, lying, and trying to use the Vagabond, the greatest resource of power available in Ourea, for domination. They don’t want peace. They want power. But, Kara, she will not let anyone use her, so she fights back.
Meanwhile, Braeden is in trouble. He has to come to terms with who he truly is, and when that secret is revealed, he loses everything he’s worked so hard to gain. He’s tossed aside like trash and is threatened on a daily basis. But he has one thing – one person to live for. And whether she wants him back or not, he will fight for her; he will die for her.
Kara comes to terms with her past, but when she finally learns to accept it, something comes along, leaving her more confused and concerned than ever. And trust me – you WILL NOT SEE THAT SURPRISE COMING!
And finally, Kara and Braeden have to face their feelings for one another! YAY!
Ms. Boyce fortunately gives us the answers we’re left asking ourselves from book one, but she gives us more questions to keep us coming back for more in the next book! There aren’t many books that keep my attention on them throughout the day, but this is one of those series. The characters and story linger in my mind until I want to know more and can’t stop reading. I’m sad to have to wait for Book 3 now. I’m hoping it won’t be too long of a wait though!
