Today, I have one of my favorite people on the blog! If you follow me on any of my social media sites, you’ll see that I talk to Tabitha Caplinger a lot. Turns out, we have a lot in common, down to choosing the same last name for our characters in our books to writing about awesome angels! So, let’s see if book three comes with a baby announcement! 😉 Welcome, Tab!
Emerald and I met through Vox Dei just a couple years ago. We are thinking our characters may have met before too, they might even be related. Perhaps Madison Andrews is a cousin to My Claire and Zoe Andrews? After all, besides sharing a last name they both have a connection to the supernatural…mainly angels. (We are plotting out some sort of crossover because it would be fun. Or maybe my girls will get a baby announcement from cousin Mads.)
Back to books and writing.
I have always been fascinated by the supernatural, the spirit realm. However, when you believe that realm is a real place writing about it can be a little weird. Well, it is now. When I wrote the first book, Bloodline, it didn’t feel weird at all. I had an idea, girls that were chosen were going to be able to see the demons the rest of us couldn’t see and they would fight them, with swords. It seemed natural for an angel to be in the mix. I like my angel, Michael. He’s steadfast and strong. He isn’t really like Biblical angels though. I didn’t want him to be. I’m not writing a theology lesson after all, I’m writing fiction.
Putting that first book out there and introducing Michael to the world is when it got weird. I hadn’t expected people to react to him the way they did. Well, how they reacted to him and Claire. I kind of get it, angels are heavenly beings, they are holy. But I didn’t want to just write about a holy creature. I wanted to give him a human connection because I want you to be able to connect with him on some level. All of the characters in my book represent pieces of us, our doubts and struggles and frustrations. Michael is no different, he might be an angel but I wanted my readers to see a piece of themselves in him. To me, Michael is the one who strives for holiness but shows us that we still need grace. Holiness and grace are not opposite ends of a spectrum, they are balancing factors. We cannot be holy aside from grace.
Michael isn’t human but he struggles with being so closely connected to humans, one in particular. Sounds a little like the whole “In the world but not of it” thing, doesn’t it? Just like Michael we have connections to people who don’t believe the same way we do, or who have their own struggles and those can cause temptation for us, they cause a tension in our own walk with God. We want to be close enough to reach them with the love of Jesus but not so close as to be pulled away from God ourselves. Michael represents this tension. He wants to obey the Maker completely, he does obey, but it isn’t always easy when emotions get involved.
As I continued writing Armor-Bearer and the third TCO3 book (sorry, not giving away the title just yet) I struggled more with how to write Michael. I don’t want to offend, but I don’t want to lose what I think his character can bring to readers on a personal level. For the record, no, you cannot fall in love with your guardian angel. But Michael isn’t like real angels, he is much more like us, he is much more human and like it or not, that was intentional on my part. Why didn’t I just write him as human then? Because he also has really cool lightning wings and who could pass up adding that kind of awesome to the book?
#TeamMiClaire, baby!! Believe it or not, I struggled with something similar in my book, but I went a completely different direction, but my girls didn’t get swords. 😦 Maybe one day, Mads will! lol
Anyway, I read Armor-Bearer, and y’all, Tab knows how to rip your heart out (in a good way!). You’ll love this series!

Here’s more about the book:
Darkness creeps around every corner as demons gather in the small town of Torch Creek, Virginia. The Destroyer has arrived, and the Reaping is coming closer by the day. Zoe knows it’s her duty as the Daughter of the Three to hold back the shadows, but she doesn’t know how, and time is running out. Zoe and her friends turn to the ancient text of the chronicle for help. Are they strong enough to withstand an enemy who exploits their deepest fears and doubts? Will they find the answers they’re looking for before all of Hell is unleashed?
Zoe’s journey as the prophecy’s promised Daughter continues in this second installment of the fantasy trilogy, The Chronicle of the Three.
Here’s My Review for you. 🙂
Armor-Bearer is a 5* read! Talk about a stab in the heart! The author knows how to connect with the readers and get the job of making us love them done.
Armor-Bearer is a fabulous follow-up to Bloodlines. There is more evil to battle. More goodness overcoming. And way more surprises.
Maggie is the light-hearted comedic relief that is just perfect for the book, and Zoe and Claire are still the greatest Aunt/Niece demon-fighting duo known to man.
Get ready for surprises, tears, laughter, and more. Great book is an understatement.
About The Author
Tabitha Caplinger is a wife, mom, youth pastor and professed tv addict. It’s seriously a problem but she doesn’t plan on getting help anytime soon. Mostly because she loves the stories. She can’t help but get lost in the worlds created and invested in the lives of the characters. She brings that same passion for the story to her own writing. The first book in her YA trilogy, The Chronicle of the Three: Bloodline, is currently available with the second book releasing in early 2017. Aside from writing and watching tv, Tabitha can be found singing off key and dancing in the kitchen or car with her two adorably sassy daughters and awesome husband who she thinks is kind of cute.
