Rise of the NotoriousInterviewer:  Thank you both for taking time out of your hectic schedule to sit down and talk with me today…I know you must still be troubled by the truth about your grandfather’s dark past.

Linc:  Right…well, Kathleen…may I call you Kathy?

Interviewer:  Oh, of course…I-

Linc:  Kathy, the truth is we have accepted what our grandfather has done. But his sins, if you will, do not reflect upon us as his successors nor do they mean we plan on giving up our livelihood and our legacy.

Interviewer:  Do you feel that this scandal will blow over in time?

Linc:  Not only will it blow over once people realize that we didn’t kill anybody, but I can guarantee to you right now that my family and our hotels will be better and stronger because of this.

Interviewer:  That’s a bold prediction.

Grant:  It’s an accurate one.

Interviewer:  Grant, what is your take on all of this? As general manager of the Vasser Hotel, how are you coping? I can only imagine that reservation numbers are down…

Grant:  I don’t cope; I take control. Our hotel is fine.

Interviewer:  Tell me more about your sister. Are you feeling shunned because your grandfather named her as his successor instead of you? You are the oldest.

Grant:  Madison is more than capable.

Linc:  Mads is tough and very smart, which is what we need right now. She won’t be pushed around and she certainly won’t back down from this fight. We work together as a team, the three of us. Just because she has the title and is the face of the company doesn’t mean we feel shut out. We’re all in this together.

Interviewer:  Many other members of your family have come into town from across the world for the funeral…have they asked you how you could let all of this happen at your hotel, under your watch? The murderous scandal, the suicides, the drunken public speeches…

Linc:  That’s stupid. We didn’t want any of this to happen.

Grant:  If we could have prevented it, we would have.

Interviewer:  Do they blame you?

Linc:  No. That’s outrageous. Why would-

Grant:  Next question, please.

Interviewer:  Alright…Grant, tell me about Quinn Taylor. You were spotted with her as your date at the fundraiser. Your company employment records show that she is currently employed as your secretary. Are you dating her?

Grant:  What does this have to do with anything?

Interviewer:  The public wants to know, Grant. You are still considered one of New York City’s most eligible bachelors. Is this no longer the case?

Grant:  I don’t see any reason to answer that. Next question.

Linc:  Quinn’s a great girl. Grant’s just shy. Look, he’s blushing even with that surly frown.

Grant:  I’m not blushing.

Linc:  You are, but that’s not important. What’s important is that he’s found a fantastic girl who is happy to put up with his grumpiness.

Interviewer:  What about you, Linc? There are pictures of you with the senator’s daughter…are you two an item?

Linc:  Ah…well, it’s complicated.

Grant:  Please elaborate, Linc. The public wants to know.

Interviewer:  *laughs* Yes, all of us single ladies desperately want to know. You are the Vasser playboy, after all.

Linc:  Alright…well, Lynette is amazing, first off. She’s gorgeous, smart, kind…she can be annoyingly indecisive at times though, especially in regards to her father. He doesn’t approve of me, or of my family. I don’t care though; she chose me over him.

Interviewer:  She’s a dancer with the New York Ballet. Does she worry her reputation may be damaged by her association with you?

Linc:  What’re you trying to say? That I’m damaged goods because of one little scandal?

Interviewer:  I would hasten to say this is not a “little” scandal.

Grant:  Regardless of the weight of the scandal, I don’t see how this is important. Why don’t you ask us about what we’re doing to improve our reputation?

Interviewer:  We’ll get to that. Grant, who do you think is responsible for your father’s death?

Grant:  He killed himself.

Interviewer:  Did he? He was the reason the scandal came out in the first place. Nobody in your family held a grudge against him?

Linc:  What’re you fishing for headlines, now? We’re done here.

Interviewer:  One last question, gentlemen…what are you going to do about famed actress Jorja Hale and her vendetta against your family?

Grant:  We’re not in the business of getting revenge.

Linc:  Jorja Hale can go to hell. She may think she has us by the shorthairs, but she’s in for a rude awakening.

Interviewer:  What sort of “rude awakening” are you planning on giving her?

Grant:  We’re done.

Linc:  Yeah, I think you have enough to print. Let’s go, Grant.

Interviewer:  Thank you both again for talking with me. I hope you’ll join me again soon…

Grant:  Don’t count on it.

Rise of the Notorious

By International Bestselling Author

Katie Jennings

Coming April 23, 2013

My Review:
What can I say? Simply amazing!

Rise of the Notorious picks up where When Empires Fall has ended, following Madison Vasser as she assumes the reign of her family’s hotel business, as given to her by her grandfather, Cyrus.

The family is under the scrutiny of the media and under attack in so many different ways. Including actually being threatened with murder.

When these threats come to life, we see just how well the Vasser family can hold up underneath the lies, threats, and truths that they face.

As much as I loved the first one, this book had me captivated. I couldn’t get enough of the beautifully developed characters and how much they grew throughout. The love shared between the couples and family, although they don’t like admitting it. The suspense of what was happening kept me glued to the screen of my Kindle.
